The place enchants with its history, architecture and nature. The monastery, surrounded on three sides by the surface of Lake Wigry, towers over the surrounding area. It seems to be unnaturally glued to the landscape of the Wigry National Park.
The Camaldolese monks came to this place in the 17th century. They found everything they needed to follow the strict rules of the Order. Thanks to their isolation from the outside world and the richness of the surrounding nature, they could fully focus on their vocation and prayer.
When you look at hermitages (modestly furnished monks' houses with small gardens) and the horizon interspersed with lake waters and forests, thoughts about the proper sense of everyday life appear in your head.
Currently, this place is looked after by the Wigry Pro Foundation. About the attractions of this place, incl. accommodation options, you can read on the profile of the Post-Camaldolese Monastery in Wigry.
